Abstract

This editorial portrays regional history in northern Chile as a dynamic field that exceeds national borders and centralized narratives. The contributions examine long-term processes in the Andean south and the Atacama Desert: early social archaeology, colonial rebellions, the persistence of coastal peoples, state formation, the nitrate economy, Chileanization and Peruvianization policies, modern urban planning, Aymara women’s migration and organization, and human rights archives.
