The study addresses, from the sociology of cultural models, one of the oldest female convent foundations of the Archdiocese of Lima: the Sienes de Arequipa Monastery. The hypothesis proposes that the social structure and religious-conventual life constitute a reproduction of medieval ternary society and of late medieval monastic theology, mediated by the reforms of the Council of Trent. The main sources supporting the analysis are the reports of the bishop’s canonical visit and more than a hundred L’Exemplum painted in the monastery’s cloisters at the beginning of the 18th century, of which 22 paintings are copies of the emblems printed in Pía Desideria, a work published in 1628 by a Flemish Jesuit, in which the Three Ways of the path of monastic perfection are presented.
